You may contact the Duke Global Health Institute at if you have specific questions about Duke students getting involved.

ALMA PROJECT

A UNC-Duke collaborative research project that is in need of a committed "intern" for a prolonged period of time (September 2008 - May 2009).  The student would need to be bilingual, and able to travel to neighboring counties (Chatham County) on consecutive weekends (about 4 hours on Saturdays) to assist with facilitation of training sessions for Latina women around coping strategies and stress alleviation.

SENIOR SWEEP FOR NUTRITION AND MEDI SWEEP

Through Learning together, coordinate an effort to assist low-income seniors with completion of food stamp applications.  Need a student who is good at planning, coordination, and communication to take the lead (with support from program staff) in coordinating the effort. Senior sweeps are usually held on Fridays, and involves a few students so that many seniors can be served during the effort.  This is a one time project that would require at least a month of lead time for coordination.  Medi Sweep is a community-based outreach project that allows learners to interact with many different members of the Durham community, including elementary-aged students and their parents. Volunteers help Durham community members to complete state insurance applications.
