Student Groups

Students are a driving force for global health efforts at Duke. Even before the Duke Global Health Institute was officially launched, students helped create courses and opportunities to expand their knowledge and opportunity to serve.

Duke Global Health Institute encourages students to participate in networking, activism and professional development opportunities. Student groups active in global health efforts at Duke include:

  • The Duke Global Health Forum's mission is to foster collaboration, spark activism, and fund student initiatives around global health at Duke.
  • The Global Health Working Group (GHWG) is a collection of graduate and professional students dedicated to educating themselves and the Research Triangle community about global health issues. In particular, the group focuses on promoting healthcare equity and access.
  • REMEDY, a program that works with the Global Health PLUS program to sort surplus usable medical supplies from the Duke University Health System for use in developing countries. • The GSK Global Health Program, funded by the GlaxoSmithKline Foundation, provides a formal way for UNC and Duke faculty and students to collaborate on research and training over a period of 3 years. The program is coordinated through the UNC School of Public Health’s Office of Global Health.
  • Global Medical Brigades is a secular, international, student-operated volunteer organization whose mission is to provide sustained health care to underserved communities throughout the world.
