The Application of Epidemiological Concepts to Global Health Problems: From Epidemiology to Policy

040 Trent Hall, 310 Trent Drive, Durham, NC

Emily Rose Smith, PhDc, will present an overview of why epidemiological research is important to the new paradigms of global health. The presentation will also introduce a framework of how epidemiology can inform policy and combat some of the challenges of doing research in international settings. Lastly, an example of how the framework plays out in the real world from a study of HIV exposed infants in Malawi will be discussed.

Smith is a candidate for a Duke Global Health Institute faculty position in Global Neurosurgery Epidemiology.

Light lunch will be provided.
