Kunshan Forum: Non-Communicable Diseases and China Health System Reform

Kunshan, China

The theme of the 2015 Kunshan Forum is Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and China's Health System Reform. Populations in China and many other Low to Middle Income Countries (LMICs) are undergoing rapid changes associated with growing rates of non-communicable diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and mental health problems. As the diseases patterns in these countries transition toward non-communicable diseases, there is wide-spread public concern over whether the current reforms of the health system in China can fully cope with several challenging issues that arise with the increasing prevalence of NCDs. Thus, the twin topics of NCDs and China's Health System Reform as the main theme of this year's annual conference. Specifically, investigation between the increasing importance of NCDs and the reform of the health system in three different sectors will take place: primary care, hospitals and long-term care.
