When we become aware of specific funding opportunities with deadlines, we post them as announcements.

 

Aga Khan Foundation - AKF
The largest foundation in the Muslim World with extensive projects in health, education, rural development, and NGO-enhancement.

Alexander von Humboldt Foundation
This program supports transatlantic research cooperation among German, American and/or Canadian scholars (Ph.D. required) in the humanities, social sciences, economics, and law. Multiple opportunities available.

American Association of University Women-International Fellowships AAUW Educational Foundation offers International Fellowships for full-time study or research to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. The fellowships support both graduate and postgraduate study at accredited institutions inside or outside the United States. Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Higher Education and Scholarship, Scholarly Communications,  Research in Information Technology,  Museums and Art Conservation,Performing Arts, Conservation and the Environment. Bloomberg Global Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use The Bloomberg Global Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use has been launched with funds from Michael R. Bloomberg.  As part of the Initiative, a competitively awarded grants program will support projects to develop and deliver high impact tobacco control interventions in low- and- middle-income countries. The grants program is being managed by the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation for Basic Research in Biomedicine Travel Allowances: to enable the recipients to visit laboratories further afield in order to study clearly defined techniques useful for their ongoing research and the work of their research group at home. Applications are continuous. Also offers PhD and MD scholarships. CARE One of largest NGOs involved in international development and relief. CDC Commonwealth Fund The International Program in Health Care Policy and Practice promotes cross-national research, collaborations and exchanges. Activities include fellowships, meetings of researchers and policymakers, and an annual GH policy survey. Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) CIES administers Fulbright grants. Fulbright grants are made to U.S. citizens and nationals of other countries for a variety of educational activities, primarily university lecturing, advanced research, graduate study and teaching in elementary and secondary schools. Since the program’s inception, approximately 279,500 participants—chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential—with the opportunity to exchange ideas and to contribute to finding solutions to shared issues. Fogarty International Center for Advanced Study in the Health Sciences Various research and training grant opportunities are available. Ford Foundation Gates (Bill and Melinda) Foundation The largest U.S. foundation active in Global Health. Hideyo Noguchi Africa Prize The Prize aims to honor individuals with outstanding achievements in the fields of medical research and medical services to combat infections and other diseases in Africa, thus contributing to the health and welfare of the African people and all humankind. Institute of International Education (IIE) - Scholar Rescue Fund The Scholar Rescue Fund is intended to support academics, scholars, and intellectuals from any country and any discipline in temporary visits to institutions in any safe country, in any part of the world. The fund’s hope is that during the fellowship period conditions in the scholars’ home country might improve to allow their safe return. Applications and nominations are accepted continuously. International Development Research Centre (IDRC) IDRC funds research activities that are designed to directly benefit developing countries and their citizens. Here you will find information about how to apply for funding and how to manage the funds you receive. International Society for Infectious Diseases The mission of the International Society for Infectious Diseases is to enhance research, prevention, and treatment of infectious diseases, particularly in low resource countries. The Society’s programs emphasize the transfer of information and appropriate technology through training and education of health care professionals. These programs include conferences, workshops, training grants, and fellowships. Emerging diseases, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), appropriate antibiotic use and antibiotic resistance, and nosocomial infections are among the areas where the Society currently has programs. Izumi Foundation The primary goal of the Izumi Foundation is to support efforts that will reduce the burden of infectious diseases in developing and low-income countries. Lady Davis Fellowship Trust The trust provides the opportunity for leading scientists and scholars, post-doctoral researchers, and doctoral students from abroad to teach, study, and participate in research in Israel at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and at the Technion Institute of Technology in Haifa. Foundation Addresses both national and international health, development, and population issues, provides links to organizations supported by the Foundation and to philanthropic resources. Medical Research Council (MRC) South Africa Research Training Awards: Funding for South African citizens to become engaged in research. National Academy of Sciences Various research awards are available. National Science Foundation The National Science Foundation funds research and education in most fields of science and engineering. It does this through grants, and cooperative agreements to more than 2,000 colleges, universities, K-12 school systems, businesses, informal science organizations and other research organizations throughout the United States. The Foundation accounts for about one-fourth of federal support to academic institutions for basic research. PAHO/WHO Fellowships Fellowships provide opportunities for advanced study in public health fields that are not customarily available in the fellow’s home country. They are intended to promote the international exchange of scientific knowledge and techniques related to health. Pfizer As a reflection of our commitment to the advancement of health care, Pfizer Inc is pleased to support medical innovation in a wide range of disciplines through our Medical & Academic Partnerships (MAP) grants and awards. Our Fellowships and Scholars Grants - career-building opportunities for academic researchers in basic, outcomes, and patient-oriented research - are key among these efforts. In addition, the Pfizer Visiting Professorships continue to be a resource for in-depth, clinically focused exchange between medical schools and host organizations and outside scholar-scientists. Independent Academic Advisory Boards select all our grants and awards recipients. These boards also help direct the structure and scope of MAP’s programs to optimize the impact of the innovation they support. Another of our objectives is the development of leadership for tomorrow. Through partnered programs such as the NIH Clinical Research Training Program, MAP is working to strengthen the momentum needed for progress in specific areas of patient care. Philippe Foundation Grants Grants are designed to facilitate the exchange of scientists and doctors between the United States and France for research related endeavors. The Foundation assists doctors and scientists who already have a salary or other source of support. Deadline Note: Continuous but see announcement. Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Though RWJF does not fund international projects, it may be useful in funding or reporting on projects relevant to GH. Rockefeller Brothers Fund Grants represent the core of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund’s operations. The Fund awards grants throughout the year to support a variety of charitable projects in the U.S. and abroad seeking to expand knowledge, clarify values and critical choices, nurture creative expression, and shape public policy. TWAS Fellowships for Postdoctoral Research and Advanced Training The Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) offers fellowships to young scientists in developing countries to enable them to spend between six and twelve months at a research institution based in a developing country other than their own.
