UNIFEM Fall Internship Announcement

INTERNSHIP POSTING:

The North Carolina chapter of UNIFEM (United Nations Development Fund for Women) is offering two internships (location: virtual and RTP-area, NC) that will focus on the promotion, event development, and monitoring of the chapter’s Facebook site.  The purpose of the site is to recruit and educate viewers, and to promote UNIFEM’s mission to provide financial and technical assistance to innovative programmes and strategies to foster women’s empowerment and gender equality.

TIMEFRAME: Approximately August-November 2009. 10-20 hours per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facebook Coordinator (virtual location):
-develop UNIFEM programs and events using the Facebook site
-develop and implement UNIFEM recruitment strategies using the site
-develop and implement a strategy to continually provide UNIFEM-related educational materials on the site
-research and post topics relevant to UNIFEM
-provide insight on how social networking through Facebook is being used and develop innovative strategies for the site
-monitor and report on the Discussion forum of the site

Event Coordinator (RTP-area location):
-assist in the coordination of upcoming NC UNIFEM events including:
planning
recruitment
public relations
communications

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
-Strong recommendation letter, preferably from a faculty member at your school
-Demonstrated skill in areas of social networking utilizing internet technology (Facebook Coordinator)
-Demonstrated maturity, integrity, and cross-cultural awareness/sensitivity
-Knowledge of the political and ethical issues surrounding women’s issues of poverty, health and education in developing countries.
THIS INTERNSHIP DOES NOT PROVIDE SALARY, HOWEVER THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR IT TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS FOR A RELEVANT UNIVERSITY PROGRAM INTERNSHIP IF SO AGREED BY ALL RELATED PARTIES.
