An Interdisciplinary Dialogue on Africa

November 12-19, 2009

Duke Divinity School, the Duke Global Health Institute and Fuqua School of Business will host a series of events Nov. 12-19, 2009 to promote and strengthen Duke's interdisciplinary partnerships in Africa. This series of discussions, presentations, and working sessions offer an opportunity to engage some of the university's African partners to learn about their experiences bridging sectors and disciplines to spur political, economic, and social development in their own countries. Through structured dialogue, we will challenge one another to continue to reframe the discipline-driven approaches and intellectual paradigms that we so often follow. We also will identify ways in which we can move toward more collaborative efforts where issues of medical expertise, health policy, business management, theology, health literacy, and education are simultaneously in play and of equal importance.

Watch video from the campus-wide event, featuring the stories of Bishop Paride Taban, Founder of the Trinity Peace Village in Southern Sudan, Maureen Nafula, advisor with the Ministry of Medical Services in Kenya and Angelina Atyam, co-founder of the Concerned Parents Association in northern Uganda.
