“As the first cohort to complete the global health certificate these students have helped shaped its future,” says Sherryl Broverman, director of the Global Health Certificate program. “Their input and enthusiasm for the interdisciplinary nature of global health and their ability to apply lessons learned to actual projects is a wonderful example of how Duke students combine thoughtful analysis with research and service. I know I will stay in touch with many of them over the next few years, and look forward to seeing where their journeys take them”

Michael Merson, director of the Duke Global Health Institute, taught the Global Health Certificate capstone course for these students. “I am very impressed with their passion for global health—both in gaining knowledge about it, and in putting that knowledge to work,” he says. “They will be headed in many different directions, but I believe their obtaining the Global Health Certificate prepares them well to launch careers in global health.”
