Our Work

Caregiver Mediated Early Autism Intervention in Africa

Project Objectives

With the support of Autism Speaks and pilot funding from the Duke Global Health Institute and in collaboration with colleagues at the Center for Autism Research in Africa at the University of Cape Town and at the University of California Davis MIND Institute, we will conduct a training in South Africa in early autism intervention. In addition, we will conduct individual interviews and focus groups with caregivers of young children with autism spectrum disorder and health care and education providers who work with these families, in order to assess contextual factors relevant to the adaptation of a caregiver mediated early autism intervention in South Africa and the acceptability of caregiver involvement in a service delivery model.
