Project Objectives

Cervical cancer is the leading cause of death for women in Peru, despite being a preventable and treatable form of cancer. The burden of disease is exacerbated by a lack of access to diagnostic screenings. Researchers at the Duke Global Women’s Health Technology Center have developed a point of care tampon (POCkeT) colposcope to screen women for cervical cancer in low-resource settings. I will be coordinating a clinical study to compare the POCkeT colposcope to the standard of care practiced at La Liga Contra el Cancer institute in Lima, Peru.
