HUBERT-YEARGAN CENTER FOR GLOBAL HEALTH
Director, Ralph Corey, MD
Created in 2004, the Hubert-Yeargan Center for Global Health (HYC) builds on remarkable work in international medical education started by the Division of Infectious Disease in the 1980s. The center inspires young students, residents, fellows and faculty by exposing them to potentially life-changing experiences within the global village. In the last decade alone, more than 300 students have received training in more than 11 sites. The faculty, staff and students support research efforts in resource-poor locations around the world while striving to serve the health-care needs of disadvantaged and vulnerable populations. The Center also hosts international physicians who participate in research and clinical opportunities at Duke before returning to their home countries to improve medical care.
Duke Global Health Institute and HYC collaborate on providing support to existing international sites where Duke has an important presence in global health, and in developing new sites overseas. Duke Global Health Institute and HYC have also collaborated to develop a Duke Global Health Residency program for medical residents in various specialties. This residency is scheduled to begin in 2008.
