Environmental health and maternal health are two major areas of DGHI research in Bangladesh. Several studies explore the water quality and the impact of malnutrition and intestinal infections on child development. Faculty are also researching various maternal health issues in the context of culture and the economy, including access to reproductive health services, early marriage and female empowerment. Duke medical students participating in the Third Year Global Health Study Program have also worked with Bangladeshi partners on mentored research investigating the impacts of caesearean section delivery on women and their families.
