What does sleep have to do with health disparities? On December 1, experts in the diverse fields of medicine, neurology, bioinformatics, human development, epidemiology, health humanities and more will come together to share their research and insights on this intriguing topic.

The Triangle Center for Evolutionary Medicine (TriCEM) will host a symposium, “Awakening to the Significance of Sleep and Health Disparities: A Global Evolutionary Perspective,” on December 1 from 8:45am to 2pm in the Great Hall of the Trent Semans Center for Health Education. The event is free and open to the public; attendees can attend as many or few sessions as they wish.

The speakers hail from Harvard University, Emory University, Penn State University, the University of Michigan, the University of Washington, Stony Brook University and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.

This event is co-sponsored by the Duke Global Health Institute, the Center on Biobehavoral Health Disparities Research and the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences.

Kristen Knutson of the University of Chicago will be giving a pre-symposium talk on November 30.
