Name: Qian Long
Title: Postdoctoral research fellow
Home institution: Global Health Research Center, Duke Kunshan University
What is your role? Postdoctoral research fellow working on health policy and system research at DKU

What does your work focus on and why is this work important for global health? My research interests and experience centers on health equity in relation to health systems development with a focus on health financing and health services organization and delivery. This includes maternal health care and tuberculosis control in poor areas and among vulnerable groups of China and Mozambique.

Over the past decades, the governments worldwide have developed health policies to offer their population equitable, affordable and high quality health care.  However, it seems no single resolution has worked everywhere. China’s ongoing health system reform provides an optimal context to study key health policy and health services issues.

What countries do you work in? China and Mozambique. I am also looking forward to working in other low- and middle-income countries in the near future.

What do you hope to accomplish during your training? I hope to gain more experience in evaluation of health system reform.

Tell us more about your background and experience. I am awarded master of public health by the Royal Tropical Institute, Amsterdam University and Doctor of Medical Science by the University of Helsinki in Finland. I did my PhD study on the utilization of maternity care in rural China.

Why did you want to work at Duke Kunshan University?  I look forward to the opportunity to do health systems research in China under the mentorship of DGHI faculty member Shenglan Tang.
