Susan Reif, of the Center for Health Policy, was just awarded a grant titled “Collaborative HIV/AIDS Mental Health Treatment Project” by the National Institute of Mental Health. This is a 2 year grant designed to use a community based participatory research approach to provide in-home mental health treatment for individuals with HIV/AIDS and test whether participation in the treatment program is associated with trends for greater motivation for addressing mental health issues and reduction in psychiatric symptoms, substance use, and HIV risk behavior.

The project will involve a partnership between the Center for Health Policy and the Regional HIV/AIDS consortium, a HIV/AIDS planning and services provision organization in Charlotte, NC, as well as collaboration with community stakeholders involved in HIV care and prevention and other related services in the Charlotte area. Brian Pence, Kathryn Whetten, and Sara LeGrand from the Center for Health Policy, and Marvin Swartz from the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences will be working with her on this grant.
