DGHI's primary partner in Leogane, Haiti is the Durham-based nonprofit, Family Health Ministries. DGHI faculty and student research is dedicated to maternal and child health, cervical cancer prevention, engineering technology solutions, and mental health. Family Health Ministries has mentored numerous undergraduate, Master of Science in Global Health, and medical students in conducting field-based research at its clinics across Haiti over the course of this multi-year partnership. DGHI supports educational partnerships including Duke undergraduates undertaking fieldwork through the Student Research Training Program. Family Health Ministries was founded by David Walmer, Associate Professor of the Practice of Global Health, and Kathy Walmer, Adjunct Assistant Professor.
