Spend your summer delving into topics such as India’s employment trends, financial services for underserved urban populations, urban infrastructure, rural development, health of marginalized communities, economic development, and others. You will have the opportunity to work with NGOs and businesses in urban or rural areas in various parts of India.
Potential Global Health Placements through the program include:
Action Research and Training for Health (ARTH): ARTH is a private, non-profit, research and training organization that was established by a group of professionals in 1997 with the intent to contribute to the improvement of health status among underprivileged communities in India. ARTH focuses on the health needs of marginalized rural and urban slum inhabitants, as well as on those of vulnerable groups like adolescents, women, migrants and unorganized labor. ARTH's mission is to help communities access and manage health care according to their needs and capacity, by using research and training initiatives, and its work broadly focuses on three program areas: Reproductive Health, Child Health, and Health Systems and Policy. Strategies employed to work on the above areas include service innovation, technical assistance, research and advocacy. Their field based service delivery work is located in southern Rajasthan while research, technical assistance and advocacy related work spreads across the state.
Interns can be involved in any of their programs by studying a specific aspect of one of ARTH's programs or government programs in the area. In all cases, the specific field assignments are decided through a process of interactions between the student and ARTH members.
ARTH would prefer students with health policy backgrounds and some research experience/skills.
