PFAS Exposure and Risk of Infertility in Women of Reproductive Age: A Cohort Study in Shanghai

Project overview

Our study aims to investigate the impact of high-level PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) exposure on the risk of infertility among couples in Shanghai. PFAS is a persistent environmental pollutant widely used in various industrial and consumer products. Increasing research has shown that PFAS exposure is associated with adverse reproductive health outcomes, including infertility. This prospective cohort study, conducted at Shanghai Xinhua Hospital, systematically collects participants' environmental exposure data, infertility outcomes, and follow-up information, monitoring changes in fertility status over time. Descriptive statistics and regression analysis models are used to control for confounding factors and assess the impact of different PFAS exposure levels on fertility. The project aims to identify high-risk populations and provide scientific evidence for the formulation of public health policies and interventions to reduce infertility, ultimately offering feasible solutions to improve fertility.
