On the leading edge of health innovation and technological change

DGHI's collaborations in India have focused on health policy and systems, innovation, and health impacts of energy use and the environment. Recent research projects have explored financing for health innovation, care for chronic diseases and mental health, and the impact of policies on maternal and child health. There have also been numerous projects looking at health impacts of technological change, such as adoption of cookstoves and new sanitation systems.

In addition to offering a wide range of projects that support fieldwork studies, DGHI has a longstanding connection with Udayan Care, whose mission is to bring support to underserved sections of society. For years, Duke undergraduate students have had opportunities to work alongside Udayan care staff to address physical and mental health support areas and outcomes for children in residential care programs in India.

In 2017, Duke launched an office in Bangalore to support current and future collaborations within the country, which continues to expand DGHI's ability to initiate research and educational projects.

Duke's Community-Based Toilet System Begins Testing in India

The leaders of the new system hope that the trial will lead to commercialized solutions through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's Reinvent the Toilet Challenge.
