Instructor in the Master of Science in Global Health

Christine Markwalter is an analytical chemist working with Dr. Steve Taylor and Dr. Wendy Prudhomme O’Meara in the Duke Global Health Institute on translational studies of malaria molecular epidemiology. She earned her B.S. from Agnes Scott College and her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Vanderbilt University under the mentorship of Dr. David Wright. Her doctoral research focused on developing and improving antigen-based malaria and schistosomiasis diagnostics for use in endemic settings. Christine’s postdoctoral research couples human and parasite genetics with serological techniques to identify potential correlates that protect individuals from malaria infection and disease.
