Dr. Christine Markwalter is an Assistant Research Professor of Global Health at Duke University. She works at the intersection of malaria genomic and sero-epidemiology, collaborating closely with Dr. Wendy O'Meara and Dr. Steve Taylor on translational molecular epidemiology studies in Kenya. Dr. Markwalter integrates data from the field and laboratory with informatics and data science, and is specifically interested in:

1. The impact of malaria parasite antigen diversity on natural immune responses and protection (and what this might mean for vaccine efficacy and design).
2. Pinpointing strain-level exposure and transmission events in natural settings to better understand infection outcomes and the transmission reservoir.

Dr. Markwalter completed her PhD in Chemistry at Vanderbilt University and has a Bachelor of Science from Agnes Scott College. She joined DGHI as a postdoctoral fellow in 2018 and joined the faculty in 2023.
