Christina Makarushka
Research Program Leader
Christina Makarushka (she/her) is a Research Program Leader working closely with Dr. Megan Huchko on her cervical cancer research portfolio. In this role, she will serve as overall lead working with the research team based in Kisumu, Kenya. Christina has worked at Duke since 2014, previously based in the Center for Health Policy and Inequalities Research, and Family Medicine and Community Health. For more than 30 years, she has enjoyed working in public health across cultures, countries and disciplines. She is passionate about improving health outcomes for women and children through interventions that address health disparities. Most recently she worked on projects based in Peru, Tanzania and the US rural South that focused on global oncology (pediatric and cervical cancer) and vaccine hesitancy. Her public health journey started in the Philippines as a Peace Corps volunteer after which she earned an MPH from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
