We believe that every student should have the opportunity to experience the transformative impact of fieldwork, and we provide many resources to help students fund these life-changing experiences. Students in the Master of Science in Global Health program automatically receive funding to complete their required field projects. For undergraduate students and those in other global health tracks at Duke, this page outlines a few resources that can help fund global health-related experiential learning projects.
Undergraduate Students
DGHI offers individual grants of up to $5,000 to support undergraduates pursuing independent global health fieldwork projects. We prioritize sophomores and juniors enrolled in a DGHI education program or working with a DGHI faculty member but students completing global health projects may apply regardless of their primary major/minor.
DGHI grants are supported through the Paul Farmer Global Health Fund, which honors the legacy of Duke alumnus and global health pioneer Dr. Paul Farmer, a former member of the DGHI Board of Advisors and Duke trustee. Applicants for this grant should have a demonstrated interest in issues related to global health disparities. All projects must include a Duke faculty mentor as well as a community-based partner in their research location.
Applications for DGHI Independent grants will open on December 1.
APPLY:
- Step 1: Complete the Independent Grant Application.
- Step 2: Request that your Duke faculty project mentor write a letter of support. Your faculty mentor must email this letter directly to gh-education@duke.edu.
