I am a Professor of Surgery, Pediatrics, and Global Health (Research) at Duke University School of Medicine and the DGHI, and serve as the Division Chief of Pediatric Surgery. I have broad interests in global health and global surgery, focusing on surgical health system assessment, health system strengthening, and patient safety. I co-teach a graduate seminar at the DGHI each fall in Global Surgical Care. My current research projects focus on our ongoing partnership with several collaborators in Guatemala, focusing on improving patient safety for children's health care as well as projects examining global metrics of surgical quality, economics, and efficiency.
