Associate Medical Officers in Sri Lanka
Associate medical officers are physician assistant equivalents with a long and rich history in Sri Lanka. They are now being phased out in spite of a strong need for primary care practitioners in Sri Lanka. This study investigates their history and the attitudes and perspectives of the AMOs themselves and physicians in Sri Lanka.
Points towards a re-evaluation of their role in the Sri Lankan health care system
