Effects of Social Contest, Culture and Minority Status on Depression and Anxiety
This study examines how social contexts intersect with cultural factors to affect the onset of depression and anxiety across different life stages and geographic locations. We are extending the Boricua Youth Study, a longitudinal three wave study of Puerto Rican children 5 to 13 years of age at baseline living in two contexts: San Juan Metropolitan area, Puerto Rico (PR), and the South Bronx (SB), NY. We plan to generate better measures of experience within social context and evaluate the effect of these factors on risk for depression and anxiety, providing important information to inform public health intervention development.
