CANCELLED: The Gulf Study: Investigating the Human Health Effects of the BP / Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill

Trent Hall, Room 124

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN.

About the lecture:
The 2010 BP / Deepwater Horizon oil spill is the largest maritime oil spill in US history, impacting thousands of miles of coastline and ecosystems.  While there have been anecdotal reports of human health effects related to the oil spill, a systematic study is needed to elucidate whether any human health effects exist.  The GuLF STUDY is a prospective cohort study designed to assess potential human health effects among ~33,000 workers and volunteers who cleaned-up the 2010 BP / Deepwater Horizon oil spill.  This talk will introduce the GuLF STUDY and discuss potential areas of collaboration and research opportunities.

About the speaker:
Dr.  Kwok's experience lies in children's environmental health and epidemiology, with a special focus on evaluating the strength of the epidemiologic evidence linking various environmental exposures to human disease.
