About the Lecture
Barretos Cancer Hospital (BCH) is one of the largest tertiary cancer hospitals in South America, with the largest cancer screening program in the world. It’s tertiary care children’s hospital provides world-class cancer care to children from across South America at no cost to patients or their families. BCH is a partner institution of Duke Global Cancer, MD Anderson Cancer Center, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and UCLA. They execute their mission to provide outstanding care in a compassionate and thoughtful environment that would benefit from continued partnership with Duke University. RosaMarie will be discussing her experience performing a clinical rotation at BCH and opportunities for further collaboration.
About the Speaker
RosaMarie Maiorella is a fourth year medical student at Duke University School of Medicine and President of the Class of 2016. She recently returned from a month-long rotation in pediatric oncology at Barretos Cancer Hospital in Brazil and will be starting residency in Pediatrics this summer. RosaMarie spent her third year performing clinical research in neonatology at the Duke Clinical Research Institute and engaged in medical leadership training through the Feagin Leadership Program. Prior to medical school, RosaMarie worked in New York City as a healthcare consultant for interactive-marketing agency, Rosetta. She graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.
