Duke global health students are using several DGHI communication outlets to share their fieldwork experiences this summer through photos, videos and stories.
Tumblr Site Captures Undergraduate Research Experiences
The 28 undergraduate students participating in the Student Research Training Program (SRT) are undertaking global health research projects in seven different countries. These students have been invited to share photos, short videos and brief reflections about their fieldwork experiences via our new Tumblr site, “Global Health Journeys.”
In addition to their own “voices,” we’re expecting students to use the Tumblr site to capture the voices and stories of their faculty advisors, community partners and community members at their fieldwork sites.
Tumblr is a social media site that combines some of the features of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Tumblr members can follow Global Health Journeys in much the same way that people follow friends and organizations on Facebook and Twitter, but anyone can visit the site to get an inside look at the students’ global health adventures.
Blog Highlights Wide Range of Fieldwork Experiences
More than 60 Duke students—including students in the SRT program, global health master’s students and doctoral scholars and students in the Bass Connections program—are conducting global health research in low- and middle-income countries this summer. Many of them will be chronicling their experiences on our blog, “Diaries from the Field.”
This summer’s project locations include Haiti, Honduras and India and many countries in between. With more than 40 different projects, research topics run the gamut from sickle cell disease in Cameroon to post-earthquake psychological first aid in Nepal to tuberculosis and HIV in South Africa.
