Dr. Rent is a neonatologist at the Duke Children's Hospital and a global perinatal health researcher. Dr. Rent's research is focused on neonatal resuscitation training and practices, including the scale-up of best practice interventions across a health system. She received funding from USAID DIV for her work in Ethiopia creating an Ethiopian Neonatal Advanced Life Support (ENALS) program. Dr. Rent also focuses on neonatal palliative care and maternal mental health following perinatal loss. Through this research line Dr. Rent works to address gaps in psychosocial support for families who have experienced stillbirth or neonatal death. In 2021 she received an early career development award from the National Palliative Care Research Center to study perinatal bereavement in Tanzania.
