Acceptability of the Pocket Colposcope with Patients and Providers in Kisumu Kenya
Project overview
Originally developed at Duke University, the Pocket Colposcope is a lightweight, handheld colposcope designed to bring improved cervical cancer screening to settings where colposcopy has not historically been available. This study is a randomized controlled trial comparing Pocket-assisted Visualization with Acetic Acid (VIA) to standard of care VIA. Survey tools designed for both the patients and the providers will assess their experience with the Pocket and whether the device has a high enough acceptability to be scaled in Kenya. Biopsies will be taken from the cervices of all participants to confirm provider diagnosis and assess the extent to which the Pocket aids in provider diagnostic accuracy.
