The Association Between Food Insecurity and Mental Health Outcomes: A quantitative and geospatial analysis study
Project overview
Food insecurity is a major public health crisis, especially with the exacerbation that COVID-19 pandemic and economic instability has had. According to Feeding America, it is estimated that in 2020, an additional 70-161 million people worldwide are likely to have experienced hunger as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Experiencing food insecurity can impact an individual's wellbeing in many ways, including mental health.
This study will use census-tract level public data to study the association between food insecurity and mental health outcomes in adults living in Miami-Dade County, FL. This project is being completed in collaboration with Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces which has multiple program parks in unincorporated MDC. Findings will help inform community needs and potentially visualize any health disparities between north, central and south MDC.
