Detecting Pre-Pandemic Viral Species in Animals and Human Animal Workers in North Vietnam
Project overview
This project analyzed bioaerosol samples collected from swine farms in Northern Vietnam to detect potential novel viruses with pandemic potential. Pan-coronavirus and pan-paramyxovirus assays were utilized to screen all of the provided samples. Following this, PCR results were analyzed, quantified, and sequenced to provide more specific data on the screened specimens.
This work investigated the effectiveness of surveillance and value of One Health based research as well as the advantages of bioaerosol sampling. Wider spread surveillance testing will increase our knowledge of viral presence on swine farms and geographic hotspots for novel viruses.
