Antibiotic resistance in gram-negative bacteria is increasing rapidly, especially in certain parts of the world such as South Asia. The purpose of this project is to determine the transmission and phylogenetic relationships of antibiotic-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (having extended-spectrum beta-lactamases) in antenatal women, their infants, and animal and environmental sources.
