Spatial and Time Trends of Cesarean Deliveries Across Brazil

Project overview

This research project is focused on the time trends and spatial distribution of cesarean deliveries in Brazil since 1996. Long term research goals in regards to perinatal health outcomes in Brazil seek to explore factors causing high cesarean delivery rates in Brazil and the impact of these high rates on perinatal mortality at large. The broader research arc is to determine factors that are driving cesarean delivery rates so that policy makers can use a more targeted approach to help drive down the high rates of cesarean deliveries across Brazil. My research will fill current gaps in the knowledge by providing a geospatial analysis of the procedure as well as an analysis of the correlation of the wealth level of municipalities and Brazil and cesarean deliveries. This analysis will provide policy makers and the community at large more information about where cesarean sections are occurring and if factors like wealth status of a municipality are predictors of cesarean delivery rates.
