Center for Global Mental Health

The Duke Center for Global Mental Health is a hub to connect people at Duke engaged in research, teaching, or practice related to understanding or reducing mental health disparities globally and locally. Through this broad understanding of global mental health, we bring together members of the Duke community that represent a range of disciplines, perspectives, and topics of interest.

Our faculty include psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, policy experts, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and physicians across multiple specialties integrating mental health into their research and clinical work. Our research spans mental health problems, populations, and contexts, and we conduct work that spans the prevention to treatment continuum. As a group, we are dedicated to conducting collaborative research and to providing experiential training opportunities in global mental health for students and early career researchers and practitioners.

We are all now more aware than ever that mental health is an essential part of human health, and that this is one of the most underserved domains in health care. DGHI is already a leader in global mental health, and we are committed to expanding vital work in this area and to using innovation to address these enormous unmet needs.

Opportunities to Connect

Annual Duke Global Mental Health Conference

On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, the Duke Center for Global Mental Health will host its 2nd Annual Conference, bringing together faculty, trainees, students, and professionals committed to addressing mental health disparities both locally and globally. Held in honor of World Mental Health Day, this year’s conference will center on the theme: Now More than Ever: Addressing the Global Imperative of Mental Health Equity.

The event will highlight Duke’s collaborative strengths, drawing participants from across the university’s schools and departments, as well as from partner universities and community organizations throughout the Triangle and beyond. The conference program will include presentations from three distinguished keynote speakers, as well as poster sessions and symposia addressing a wide range of topics in global mental health.

The conference is free to attend and registration is now open. All are welcome to register and contribute to this growing community of global mental health scholarship and practice. Applications are also being accepted from Duke students, faculty, affiliates and partners for poster presentations, oral presentations, and symposia.

To register, submit an abstract, or learn more about the conference, visit the conference website here.
